The Achilles UVDB (Utility Vendor Database) is a pre-qualification system used across the UK utilities market that helps organisations achieve the highest standards of supply chain assurance.
Achilles UVDB verification involves an independent audit of Safety, Health, Environment, Quality (SHEQ) management systems and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This audit process ensures that the certified suppliers have robust systems and practices in place to prioritise safety, quality, environmental sustainability, and ethical business conduct. By obtaining Achilles UVDB certification, suppliers and contractors demonstrate that they meet the Utilities industry’s requirements.

AAC/AAAC cables refer to electrical conductors that are made of aluminium. AAC stands for All Aluminium Conductors, while AAAC stands for All Aluminium Alloy Conductors. These types of conductors are commonly used in overhead power transmission and distribution, where high tensile strength is required, but the weight of the cable should be minimised.
AAC cables are composed of a stranded aluminium conductor, which offers high electrical conductivity, low cost, and excellent resistance to corrosion. They are commonly used in medium voltage power lines, because of its advantages such as light weight, easy installation, and low cost per unit length. AAC conductors are also used as a core for ACSR conductors, which is a conductor with a steel core.
Alternatively, AAAC cables are made of stranded aluminium alloy, which has higher strength and better corrosion resistance than pure aluminium conductors. AAAC cables can withstand higher environmental temperatures and have better overall performance in tropical climates. They are often used in high voltage power transmission and distribution, as they offer improved mechanical properties and higher ampacity ratings compared to AAC cables.
AAC cables Vs AAAC cables
AAC cables are less expensive and lighter in weight, whereas AAAC cables offer improved mechanical and electrical properties. The choice between AAC and AAAC cables will depend on the specific requirements of an application, including the expected environmental conditions, required strength and ampacity considerations. If you need further assistance in selecting the right aluminium conductor for your needs, our team of experts is available to guide you through the selection process. We offer a free quotation service to ensure that you choose the most suitable and cost-effective cable solution for your project.
