Farnborough International Air Show 2024

We’re excited to announce our participation in the highly anticipated Farnborough International Airshow in 2024,  from July 22nd until July 26th. Farnborough International Air Show has long been recognised as a global platform for the aerospace and defence industries, attracting industry and supply chain professionals, trade delegations, aviation enthusiasts, and innovators from around the globe. With its rich history dating back to 1920, the biennial air show continues to serve as a hub for showcasing cutting-edge technology, fostering collaborations, and driving industry advancements.

What can we expect to see at Farnborough International Air Show 2024?

After an undeniably challenging few years, a positive outlook is projected for the aerospace sector, with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasts predicting a remarkable revenue growth of 7.6%, with air travel now surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The UK Prime Minister and Defence Secretary recently announced plans to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2030, so it is no surprise that the Joint Economic Data Hub (JEDHub) are highlighting growth in defence sector revenue.

The show’s primary focus is to spotlight the aerospace and defence sectors, with huge crowds drawn to the mesmerising high-octane aerial displays. However, the draw for business is bringing together the wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise across the supply chain to connect and collaborate. All areas of the supply chain are invited to showcase the latest technological, materials and design advancements that are revolutionising the industry.

Key themes will undoubtedly be sustainability, net-zero initiatives, advanced Urban Air Mobility (UAM), hydrogen and battery technology, and alternative fuel. Farnborough Air Show attracts around 75,000 visitors from over 102 countries, making it the perfect opportunity for leading manufacturers such as Airbus, BAE Systems, Safran, UTC, and Rolls Royce, as well as government officials, to make significant announcements, confirm orders and unveil investments in development projects. While we can only guess at what these announcements might look like for 2024, plans announced at FIA 2022 included:

  • 6.7 million GBP investment for high-density aerospace solar power cells that could be used on electric aircraft, led by Microlink Devices UK
  • 11.1 million GBP to develop existing automotive sector knowledge of high-power, high-torque, super low-weight electric motors and power electronics into the air mobility market
  • 10 million GBP for Project HEART to explore hydrogen or electricity powered aircraft to increase sustainable regional connectivity across the UK.
