Two Categories of Metal strip
Carbon steels can be broadly split into high and low carbon categories.
Low Carbon (Mild) Steel Strip
Less than 0.2% carbon content
- Low carbon mild steel strip can only be hardened by cold working.
- Some low carbon mild steel strip can be case hardened for a harder surface.
High Carbon (Spring) Steel Strip
More than 0.2% carbon content
High carbon steel strip is available
- Annealed and as rolled for hardening after forming or blanking
- Mill hardened and tempered metal strip.
